March 2026

Workshop:

Saturday 14th of March, 10am-3pm
£50 (+booking fee*) per participant
All materials included

Join local artists Rose Sanderson and Molly Macleod for a day of exploring nature creatively through their unique and innovative artistic practices. Inspired by scientific and amateur naturalist techniques we will guide you through a process of experimental investigation of the natural world. Focusing on developing your creative process in an open-minded and inclusive environment, we will explore the space in which art and scientific investigation coexist together.

The workshop will begin on Gwbert beach to collect inspirational images and beach combing objects to work with. The group will then return to the nearby studios of Createspace Wales in Ferwig where you will be guided through a series of material and conceptual creative exercises and techniques. There will be magnifying lenses, projected digital USB microscopes, listening devices and a selection of resources such as amateur naturalist and wildlife reference books provided to aid in your exploration, as well as various drawing materials.

Tea and biscuits will be provided throughout the day. Please bring along your own packed lunch, we also recommend wearing sturdy shoes and a waterproof coat. If you have specific access needs please contact us to discuss what we can do to accommodate you. Please note there are steep steps down to Gwbert beach.

Participants will meet at The Cliff Hotel & Spa carpark. We encourage car-sharing where possible.

Molly Macleod works within the intersection of art and science. Creating interdisciplinary installations revealing the unseen and unheard networks within nature. She invites her audience to consider their impact on the environment and the future of our landscapes, questioning what place we hold as humans in the intricate ecological structures that surround us. Rose Sanderson was originally trained as an Illustrator, and later moved into the fine art world. She has exhibited in numerous places across the globe, and created work for such clients as the BBC and London’s Natural History Museum.
Through painting, drawing and making, Rose is inspired predominantly by the Natural World. Living on the rugged coast of West Wales and having spent most of her life by or on the sea, her current work is strongly influenced by her surroundings and her fondness for marine life.
Rose has had experience in running both adult and child workshops, with an added qualification in Childcare and education. In sharing her artistic skills and interest in the natural world she hopes to encourage others to delve into this precious place of wonder.
