Sylvia Nankivell’s mixed medium compositions use highly saturated colours, as a means of representing what she views as a tendency towards blind optimism over the need for fast action on certain societal issues. Her most recent works are also intentionally busy, as a response to the somewhat overwhelming nature of issues concerning modernity and the human footprint.
Although Sylvia had a keen interest in art from a young age, after school she went on to study a business degree. She continued to paint part-time as a hobby. However, her passion for contemporary art was recently developed more fully via an arts course in Carmarthen, Wales, which she completed as a mature student.
She has been traveling in a camper van and doing snowboard seasons for the past 3-4 years, and has just recently returned to the West Wales coast. During her travels she was busy contemplating and sketching ideas for a new body of work.
She is now making the most of the Createspace Wales studio to put her new ideas in to practice!
